Geospatial Information Librarian @ UCR

Hello all,

After 10+ years of being privileged to serve as a geospatial librarian, I’ll be retiring towards the end of this year. Because geospatial instruction and research has recently become a priority at our campus, UC Riverside Library is taking the unusual step of recruiting for my replacement now:

Geospatial Information Librarian – Incumbent will advance geospatial literacy and research in multiple disciplines. This position offers an opportunity to support both established and emerging uses of geospatial data and technology, including integration with drones and AI, at a dynamic campus situated near the headquarters of Esri, the GIS industry leader.

We’d like to make the transition of this role as seamless as possible, including a potential short-term overlap!  Meanwhile, I’ll work towards making documentation, etc. as tidy as possible for the incoming librarian.

The position is in the library’s Research Services Department, which has a focus on supporting interdisciplinarity and the evolving use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academia and the workforce.

Among the benefits of working at UC Riverside Library:

  • Location – relatively affordable for California, only an hour or two from beaches / mountains / desert / Los Angeles / Orange County / San Diego
  • Wonderful colleagues and campus geospatial community
  • Connect regularly with colleagues throughout the University of California and Stanford
  • Connections with Esri
  • Diverse campus with a high proportion of first-generation students

I’m not on the search committee and am happy to answer your questions (within the boundaries needed in this situation).

Best,

Janet Reyes
