2024 ESRI User Conference

The 2024 ESRI User Conference is on this week in San Diego. It is ESRI’s 44th user conference and celebrating 55 years as a company.

Some interesting information during the Plenary today:

  • ArcGIS Online recycle bin, edit data with Web Editor, metadata editor, Model Builder, Data Pipelines
  • Dashboards on mobile devices, 3D scenes in dashboards
  • Story Maps offline briefings
  • GeoAI predetermined models, ready to use, landcover, buildings, etc.
  • ArcGIS Velocity
  • ArcGIS support for STAC, oriented imagery, stream geospatial videos on a map
  • Add PDF to a map
  • ArcGIS Hub map based discussion boards … Geo Chat
  • ArcGIS Pro, change group check boxes to radio buttons, insert hyperlinks in layouts, data schema editing in Excel

Fireworks 2024!

It’s that time again … July 4th and fireworks! Only some areas in SoCal are allowing the sales of fireworks. Where can you go?

Use the app to view cities in LA, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino County that allow the sale and discharge of fireworks.  Included are days and times when fireworks will be sold and when you can light them up, as well as links to city websites and telephone numbers.  Data was collected from municipal codes, websites, and/or contacting each city. Data provided as is.  Some cities are allowing sales now AND allow you to discharge them as well!  Check it out and be safe!

ArcGIS Online User Types are Changing

The user types in ArcGIS Online and later for ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal are changing. Basically:

  • Changes now in ArcGIS Online
  • Changes in November 2024 for Enterprise/Portal version 11.4
  • Editor user type renamed to Contributor
  • GIS Professional Advanced renamed Professional Plus
  • GIS Professional Standard renamed to Professional
  • GIS Professional Basic and Creator combined into Creator
  • Higher user types include features of user types below them
  • Creator, Professional, and Professional Plus are foundational user types
  • Viewer, Contributor, and Mobile Worker are add-on dependent user types
  • Creator includes a ArcGIS Pro Basic license
  • Professional includes a ArcGIS Pro Standard license
  • Professional Plus includes a ArcGIS Pro Advanced license and extensions

Any price changes will be effective for renewals from August 1, 2024. August renewals will include the new user types. Any renewals up to July 31, 2024 will retain the same pricing until the next renewal in 2025.

CGIA Workshop – Effective Delegation

CGIA will be hosting an upcoming workshop – Effective Delegation, on Monday June 17th (12pm – 1:30pm, Pacific).

Effective delegation skills are key to managing one’s workload. Ventura County has an opening for a GIS Programmer Analyst in their Information Technology Services Department.

You will be part of a great GIS team that is involved in many GIS projects that span multiple departments in the County. Some of the GIS technology you will work with include ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Experience Builder, Geocortex/VertiGIS Studio, and Enterprise Geodatabases in Oracle and PostgreSQL. Knowledge and experience in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, VertiGIS, and Geocortex is highly desired.

GIS Supervisor position @ City of Fontana

The City of Fontana has an opening for a GIS Supervisor. Under direction of the Innovation and Technology Director, the GIS Supervisor positions, plans, and directs the overall GIS activities for the City; serves as primary City authority and champion for all policies and procedures related to Geographic Information Systems operations and services, as well as all support technology.

The GIS Supervisor guides and shapes the City’s geographic information systems. Working alongside a team of GIS and IT professionals, the GIS Supervisor ensures the City uses modern GIS technology to meet the demands of a growing city. On any given day you could work with the Public Works or Police Department staff to ensure their core applications are integrating with the GIS systems. As the GIS Supervisor, you work with all City staff and provide leadership and direction for all GIS systems.
