CARs Initiative

Next Thursday, the California Geographic Information Association will be hosting a presentation on the Caltrans All Roads (CARs) Initiative.

Over the past several years, Caltrans has teamed up with the Federal Highway Administration on developing a statewide road network GIS dataset that’s inclusive of data from all counties and municipalities.  While much effort has been made during this initial phase to develop a vision, program goals and objectives, the CARs initiative is now in the process of forming a working group to assist in developing an implementation strategy.  This working group consisting of state and local agencies will not only serve to support transportation management needs of these organizations, but will also work toward developing a data management model supporting other state GIS initiatives like the Cal OES NG911 program.

If you are interested in hearing more about this initiative, please attend their presentation scheduled during the upcoming CGIA meeting on December 14th.
