GIS Technician Position

Position Description:
Orca Maritime, Inc. is an underwater services company established by two retired U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts with extensive experience in military EOD and salvage diving, underwater mine countermeasures, unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations.

Orca Maritime is searching for a talented GIS Technician to join the Orca Maritime GIS team. Orca Maritime’s GIS team is responsible for post-processing AUV datasets including, but not limited to, interferometric bathymetry data and side scan sonar. Large sonar datasets are post-processed using specialized hydrographic data processing software and migrated into Esri’s ArcGIS platform for final delivery of custom products to clients. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
– Process, filter, and clean raw 2D and 3D bathymetry data using documented procedures
– Process side scan sonar imagery data using documented procedures
– Develop and maintain geographic information systems using ESRI’s product suite for online web applications
– Develop geoprocessing models for large imagery datasets
– GIS web application development and maintenance
– Present information to clients and stakeholders
– Participate in instruction of software-based courses

Required Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
– Hydrographic, GIS, Geography, Marine Science, or Oceanography degrees preferred
– 2-3 years of professional GIS working experience
– Proficiency with Esri’s ArcGIS for Desktop version 10.x software suite, including the 3D/Spatial Analyst extensions
– Experience building geoprocessing models within the ModelBuilder framework of ArcGIS
– Proficient in using ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, ArcScene, and MS Office
– Experience developing and maintaining web-based GIS applications

Preferred Qualifications:
– Federal Security Clearance (current in JPAS)
– Experience using bathymetry post-processing software (preferably SonarWiz)
– Experience creating and managing mosaic datasets in ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Pro
– Experience deploying ArcGIS for Server and experience working in an ArcSDE environment
– Programming experience with Python, HTML5 and Javascript
– Familiarity with hydrographic surveying and small boat operations
– Experiencing using ESRI’s WebApp Builder and WebApp Studio
– Experience integrating CAD data into ArcGIS
