Chief Information Officer – Burbank

The City of Burbank is seeking a forward-thinking, high energy IT leader who is known for producing outstanding results. The ideal candidate will offer an exceptional project management and delivery track record that reflects a history of consistently completing projects on-time and within budget. He/she will exhibit a high level of competency in managing multiple priorities simultaneously that is strengthened by an impressive history of working as a partner with diverse customer groups.

Burbank’s Chief Information Officer must be dedicated to remarkable customer service and possess the proven ability to instill excellent service standards within his/her team. Understanding that the work of the IT team directly impacts the ability of all City departments to succeed, the individual selected will be committed to continuous improvement and proactively seek feedback from department managers and system users on a routine basis. With a keen eye for efficiency and modernization opportunities, he/she will be expected to provide valuable suggestions that enhance automation and self-service functionality that help advance the goals of the City Council. 

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills. He/she will exhibit a high degree of professionalism and be regarded as a relationship builder who facilitates constructive dialog and problem-solving discussions with ease. While a well-respected technical expert, the CIO will also have the ability to easily relate to layperson audiences and clearly communicate the benefits and potential gains associated with various technologies.

The professional selected will be a highly capable people manager who holds team members accountable to his/her high standards. He/she will have an impressive track record as a successful mentor coupled with the proven ability to attract and retain outstanding talent. A reputation for providing meaningful work in a rewarding environment will be expected. Previous experience working with represented employees will be considered favorably.

The ideal candidate will possess a general understanding of local government functions. Success in his/her role will require a strong business mindset and superior critical thinking skills – enabling him/her to make well-reasoned recommendations. Extensive experience selecting and working with vendors, and negotiating and managing contracts will be expected. Familiarity with service level agreements and performance metrics will also be considered favorably.

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary as determined by the City will be considered qualifying. A typical combination of education and/or experience would include at least seven (7) years of recent, progressively responsible, senior, or executive level management experience in an Information Technology environment. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is required. A Master’s degree is desirable. Public sector experience is desired, but not necessary. The City will weight transferrable experience, business acumen, customer orientation and a track record of producing amazing results over traditional government experience.
