Enterprise GIS Manager – City of San Diego

Under the leadership of the Department of Information Technology, the Enterprise GIS Manager will plan, manage, coordinate, and lead the GIS activities of the City, including coordinating with the City’s managed services vendors, architecting the ESRI to SAP integration, creating and implementing the City’s GIS strategic plan, leading product upgrades to maintain supportable platforms, managing the City’s ESRI enterprise user license agreements, and managing direct-report GIS analyst staff and GIS analyst staff deployed in a variety of other City departments. The GIS Manager will apply best practices to the landscape, infrastructure, business processes, and tools, enforce the Department of IT technical standards and change management process.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • A commitment to public service, fiscal responsibility, and innovation in government;
  • At least 5 years of ESRI GIS experience including new platform implementations and support of large and complex ESRI landscapes in a GIS lead or manager role.
  • A clear understanding of the technical requirements to support ESRI ArcGIS mobile, online, desktop, and server environments.
  • The ability to drive technical innovation and cost effective solutions for the City’s GIS landscapes.
  • The ability to monitor and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to proactively identify problems and support creative and viable technology solutions

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology related area and five years of experience in implementation and support of ESRI platforms is preferred.
Management Compensation and Benefits:
The successful candidate will be eligible for participation in the City’s Flexible Benefits Plan that offers several optional benefit plans or a taxable cash option; $50,000 in City-paid life insurance; paid annual leave accruing at 22 days per year for the 1st through the 15th year of service. Pre-Employment Requirements:
